Chapter Philanthropy & Service
In addition to national partners, collegiate chapters also support local causes through philanthropic fundraising and hands-on service on their campuses and in their local communities.
The Epsilon Sigma Chapter strives to contribute to their local community through service on Bridgewater State University Campus and the local community. The main focuses include Heart Beats For Down Syndrome, Father Bill’s & MainSpring, and Relay for Life.
Heart Beats For Down Syndrome
Heart Beats For Down Syndrome began with four mothers who had children with Down Syndrome. The goal was to help alleviate the fear and anxiety that comes with having to stay in a hospital, and they wanted to do this by making care packages. HBDS personally delivers care packages, which allows them to meet the families and offer support. As a sorority, we think that it is very important to help others and we raise money to give to Heart Beats for Down Syndrome so that they can make more care packages and help as many families in need as they can. The Buddy Walk is the main event that raises money for HBDS and is something we participate in annually.
Typically when we volunteer annually at the HeartBeats for Down Syndrome Buddy Walk to run a face painting and tattoo table.
Father Bill’s is a homeless shelter working to end homelessness and providing food and shelter to those in need. The shelter serves lunch and dinner each day and gives people the option to spend the night if they need a warm place to go. Father Bill’s relies on donations from the community to serve the people and provide them with what they need. As a sorority, we volunteer and help serve food during the dinner hours. We have also made bagged lunches that they could use for the lunchtime meals. We find it extremely important to give back to a community that is not far from where we go to school.
Relay For Life
During Relay for Life, the community comes together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. As a sorority, we participate in Relay For Life, and we spend the night walking in remembrance of lives lost, and in celebration of those who have survived this terrible disease. We raise money throughout the year to donate to this great event, and it holds an extraordinary place in our hearts.
